October 13, 1988 EEOC chair Clarence Thomas criticized
a General Accounting Office report that said
EEOC did not fully investigate as many as 80% of job discrimination claims
over a three-month period last year.
In a statement, Thomas said the report by GAO,
an investigative arm of Congress, “trivializes civil rights enforcement
to a level commensurate with widget making.
It’s politically motivated, highly misleading and deficient
in several major regards.”
